ASICS, an acronym for the Latin phrase Anima Sana in Corpore Sano which translates to 'You should pray for a healthy mind in a healthy body', was launched in Japan in 1945. Moved by these words, founder Kihachiro Onitsuka was inspired to make sporting shoes for young people. Using revolutionary new features, ASICS began creating shoes for baseball, marathons, wrestling, golf and mountaineering, before releasing the first pair of shoes to use a synthetic sole – an invention later given to the Japanese national athletic team. Now renowned for its range of trainers, all characterised by the Mexico line logo stripes to each side and crafted using modern technology and targeted comfort to improve performance, the brand can be seen fulfilling its initial purpose – aiding people to live healthy and active lifestyles.
