When a fashion house can be identified by a colour alone, it’s a surefire signal of its dominance within the industry. Since opening its Roman atelier in 1960, Valentino has come to represent not just a shade of red – otherwise known as Rosso Valentino – but the disposition of the Italian woman. Valentino menswear, on the other hand, offers its own take on luxe streetwear, with its collections encompassing ready-to-wear, men’s shoes and accessories. Valentino Garavani was the pioneer behind the label, but it’s also the given name of the diffusion line that makes up the brand’s bags and shoes – the most iconic collection of which is undoubtedly the Rockstud. Punctuating all manner of leather goods from heels to tote bags, the pyramidal stud is an instantly recognisable piece of hardware.
