Carhartt WIP
Carhartt WIP (or Work In Progress, to give its full name) is the younger brother of American workwear brand Carhartt. Founded in Detroit in 1889, the original Carhartt produces heavy-duty workwear for manual labourers, but its distinctive aesthetic gained a cult following in underground fashion, music and artistic subcultures. And so, Carhartt WIP was born, reinterpreting the design principles of the main label as modern streetwear. Brand signatures remain: the Carhartt Detroit jacket is a staple, while check shirts, cargo trousers and jumpers bear the hallmarks of the rugged workwear that inspires them. Look out for the yellow ‘C’ motif – stamped upon hoodies, T-shirts and caps or on the back of jeans, the logo is as likely to be found in a hip hop music video or skatepark as it is on a construction site.
