In the ‘50s, it was important to always have two cents on hand in case you needed to make an emergency call on public phone lines. Scared that this money would fall out of their pockets, people started to store their coins in the weejuns of their loafers – what would, shortly after, start to be known as the penny slot. To this day, the phenomenon has continued – albeit less as necessity and more a fashion statement. This iteration by Christian Louboutin sees this hardware detail sit front and centre of a classic leather pair.
