The Story of an Icon: 10 Years of the Loewe Puzzle Bag

As far as It-bags go, they don’t come more universally popular than the Loewe Puzzle. Debuted as a duffle during Jonathan Anderson’s tenure and inaugural menswear collection, the Puzzle quickly evolved into the signature shape we know and love today. Upon its unveiling, it was the first Loewe bag to be introduced since the 1980s – now, a decade on, the Puzzle remains an accessories icon, deserving of its place in the fashion hall of fame. Its origami-like folding design and intricate hand-stitching (it takes nine hours to craft just one bag) combine beauty and functionality, all while staying true to Loewe’s heritage of intricate leatherwork. “I set out to find a new way of building a bag, fundamentally questioning its structure,” said Anderson upon the Puzzle’s release. “It was about deconstructing a conventional bag to create a flat object with a tridimensional function.”

Fast forward to 2025: how does one of the world’s most eminent fashion houses celebrate the birthday of its signature? Not by halves. Loewe is releasing a series of 19 limited Puzzle re-editions – plus an all-new Confetti Puzzle – all available exclusively in-store at the Harrods pop-up this month.

As the Puzzle bag celebrates its 10th anniversary, Loewe has released a series of 19 re-editions that nod to collections through the years – from whimsical cloud motifs inspired by Stephen Meisel’s 2017 campaign to cowboy-inspired stitching as seen in the 2019 pre-collection. Alongside nostalgic iterations, a new Confetti Puzzle showcases thousands of leather sequins referencing the backdrop of the Autumn/Winter 2023 show, designed by artist Lara Favaretto. Loewe fans will be pleased to hear, too, that each re-edition comes with a bespoke jigsaw puzzle, limited-edition metal plaque and two interchangeable bag charms.

The Loewe Puzzle 10 Anniversary Pop-up

To showcase the Puzzle 10 capsule, a Loewe pop-up has arrived in the Crescent Windows on the Ground Floor at Harrods – in-store until Sunday 22nd June 2025. Expect an interactive exhibition featuring collectable re-editions, a series of the new Puzzcharms and in-person demonstrations from Loewe artisans. Thirsty? The Autumn/Winter 2025 Pre-Collection

An artful conversation between pattern and proportion, Loewe’s latest arrivals ahead of Autumn/Winter 2025 feature fluid shapes and romantic florals contrasted with tailoring and supple leather. As for accessories, the Puzzle is joined by the new Roll-Top Backpack, Madrid and Ola bags as the season’s leading ensemble.
