Those familiar with Meryl Streep’s iconic ‘cerulean’ monologue in The Devil Wears Prada will understand that the significance of colour goes far beyond aesthetics. Seasonal hues of choice offer a snapshot of social and cultural moments in time, reflecting the zeitgeist.
So, what does the palette of 2025 say? From mocha mousse to powder pink – with interjections of high-saturation red, green and marigold – the trending colours of SS25 combine into a chromatic cocoon of comfort, nostalgia and playfulness. Sound appealing? Keep reading for the palette the Harrods team predicts will define the season.
Calling to mind coffee, chocolate and a certain creamy dessert, Pantone’s Colour of 2025 is good enough to eat. Said to represent warmth, connection and thoughtful indulgence, the gourmand shade was seen at Hermès, Fendi and Max Mara – and has quickly cemented itself as fashion’s favourite neutral for Spring/Summer 2025.
While 2024 may have been the year of Barbie brights, 2025 favours a softer pink. Khaite, Miu Miu, Jil Sander and Alaïa all showed powdery pastels in a new and modern light for SS25. If you’re not a fan of it head-to-foot, try introducing navy or black – both of which bring a degree of seriousness and sophistication to the scene.
Ruffled romanticism, maximalist prints and more: these are the trends that define the mood of the moment.
If you skew more Elphaba than Glinda, you’ll be pleased to know that green is also on the up for SS25. From the silk gown worn by Gigi Hadid at Victoria Beckham to the suede Peter-Pan collar jacket at Prada, verdant hues were seen throughout fashion month as last year’s ‘brat’ palette assumed its grown-up incarnation.
In good news for your 2024 wardrobe, red continues to reign supreme for Spring/Summer 2025. Seen at the likes of Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton and Jacquemus – Kylie Jenner looked incredible in the Castagna dress on the latter’s FROW – the tomato hue is here to stay. If you favour a quieter wardrobe, introduce it gradually through accessories.
Marigold or tangerine: whatever you call it, the exuberant yellow-orange colour has been making its presence felt in the Spring/Summer 2025 collections. At Loewe, micro-mini sequins paired with chunky brogues. Meanwhile, Burberry and Tove showed flowing maxi skirts teamed with cream and white separates – proving the unexpected shade is ideal for bringing sunshine into neutral looks.
