The Men’s Brands to Know for the Height of Summer

Words by Tony Wilkes

“Summer is more than a season,” says the resort wear brand Frescobol Carioca. “Summering is a mindset.” As London is about to enter its latest heatwave, we thought it’s about time to shine a spotlight on our men’s capsule collections for high summer, each nailing the art of warm-weather dressing in its own way. Whether drawn from the beaches of Australia, Rio de Janeiro or Saint-Tropez, these are the brands doing it best at Harrods.

Commas

Commas founder Richard Jarman always starts his day with a morning swim in the sea. Founded on a deep connection to the water, the Syndey-based resort brand captures the essence of the Australian lifestyle, where everything revolves around the sun, water and being in nature. As each piece is made in Sydney, Commas has eyes on every stage of the production process, which involves skilled artisans and leading mills from across the world. Look out especially for the breathable Italian linens – they’re always quick to sell out.

NN.07

“We are not a hype brand,” NN.07’s CEO told Monocle. “We are design and quality oriented, rather than fashion-oriented.” Founded by two friends on a visit to Tokyo, the brand is built on inspirations from around the world – in fact, its name means ‘No Nationality’. Here you’ll find understated staples that underpin every man’s wardrobe, alongside more adventurous pieces like tie-dye and jacquard shirts. Whichever you choose, these clothes are future classics – guaranteed to see you through many summers to come.

Ché

Oliver Cheshire was no stranger to fashion when he launched Ché in 2019. Having modelled for brands like Versace and Calvin Klein, he had spent 15 years observing some of the best practitioners of men’s style. Specialising in resort wear, Cheshire first looked to photographs from the 1960s of Venice Beach and the French Riviera. Nearly 10 years on, that retro aesthetic is still very much in evidence, skilfully modernised with elegant trims, patterns and cuts for summer.

Frescobol Carioca

The key to understanding Frescobol Carioca is all in its name: frescobol, the bat-and-ball game played on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro, and Carioca, the name given to natives of the city, who are known for their warm and relaxed nature. All of the brand’s collections are made to reflect the very same spirit, designed to move effortlessly from the beach to the city. A particular highlight are the label’s prints – each designed in-house and inspired by Rio’s landscapes and Art Deco heritage.

Aside from its signature swimwear, don’t miss its latest summer casuals and smart printed sets.
