The Top to Toe Beauty Routine To Try Now

Words by Verity Clark

Interest is booming in taking care of every inch of our bodies. Need proof? Pinterest reported that searches for 'body skincare routine' were up by more than 1,000 per cent in December 2023, while sales of premium handcare are expected to hit $813m this year (a 38 per cent jump from 2019, according to Euromonitor). Happily, there is a slew of brilliant new launches that cater to this newfound focus. Whether you’re seeking to tackle loss of volume on your hands (yes, it’s a thing) or in the market for a smile overhaul, the latest formulas and innovations are on hand to cater for your every beauty whim.

The Bodycare Boom

"With a greater emphasis being placed on overall wellness, it feels like an oversight to only focus on the skin on our faces," says consultant dermatologist Dr Alexis Granite. She confirms that "many skin challenges are not unique to the face", and regularly treats patients for pigmentation, blemishes and loss of elasticity manifesting below the chin. That's why she created Joonbyrd, a range of products to be used on arms, legs and torsos; think body washes packed with hyaluronic acid or firming body serums powered by peptides. And Granite is not alone: brands that have traditionally cared for our faces are also moving into the bodycare space for example Murad, with its newly launched Retinal ReSculpt Body Treatment

Handcare 2.0

Aesthetic doctors have reported a rise in patients opting for hand rejuvenation procedures – think filler, fat grafting or laser treatments but what's behind this new obsession? "The hands are one of the first places that begin to show signs of ageing," says Ulrich Katusevanako, head of new product development and scientific communication at Orveda. "But they rarely get the same attention as our face." Until now. Our desire to treat everything from signs of ageing and uneven skin tone to loss of volume is now being addressed with multiple at–home solutions. Iceland–based Bioeffect uses Epidermal Growth Factor (a super ingredient for skin rejuvenation) in its hand serum, while LED specialist FAQ has extended its range of cutting–edge at–home technology with a hand mask that includes eight wavelengths of LED light therapy to boost collagen and minimise signs of ageing. The truly dedicated, meanwhile, should consider getting their hands on Orveda's Youth Glove Protocol Hand Care Trio. The highly concentrated serum and cream are designed to be used weekly; apply both, then put on the reusable silicone gloves to lock in the active ingredients.

An Oral Overhaul

The oral microbiome is set to take centre stage as neuroscientists discover new links between the health of the mouth, brain and body. "Poor oral hygiene can lead to gum disease, which is linked to chronic inflammation, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and respiratory infections," explains dental surgeon Dr Shaadi Manouchehri. "By maintaining good oral hygiene, you may reduce the risk of these complications, which can contribute to a healthier, longer life." Dr Zayba Sheikh, founder of Ruh Dental, agrees: "Teeth are no longer just something to keep healthy, but a key part of a holistic approach to wellness."
