The 7 Most Luxurious-Smelling Hair Perfumes

Words by Jennifer George

When it comes to scent, why stop at your body? Hair perfumes offer an extra addition of fragrance, to either pair with your eau de parfum or play with layering varied notes. You could find that spritzing the scent onto your hair in the morning can also seem longer lasting that your usual fragrance, as it creates a halo of scent that’s re-released with every swish of your strands throughout the day.

What Is a Hair Perfume?

A hair perfume is a scent that is formulated specifically for the hair, so it’s kind to your locks whilst you apply and wear it. Negin Mirsalehi, founder of honey-based beauty brand Gisou, launched into this category as an extension of her delicious smelling hair products, and explains that “standard eau de parfum isn’t meant for hair. They usually have a high alcohol concentration and are very drying.” Hair perfumes on the other hand, should contain ingredients that “nourish and help restore health to hair, while making it smell great in between washes too.”

How to Choose a Hair Perfume

Look out for ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants, “to deeply nourish, moisturise and repair the hair,” recommends Mirsalehi. Not only are the physical benefits brilliant, but hair perfume can give your mood a lift too, she adds: “hair perfume ensures I always feel fresh and confident. It really leaves an impression on not only you, but those around you too.”

Whether you need a pick-me-up to refresh between wash days (without weighing it down like some products can) or are looking for a daily dose of extra dimension when it comes to scent, here are the best – and most luxurious smelling – hair perfumes.

Gisou Honey Infused Hair Parfum

Infused with the brand owner’s honey (from their 200-year-old farm) and argan oil, Gisou’s Honey Infused Hair Parfum formula is refreshing, hydrating and shine-boosting. The honey is a natural humectant that helps to lock in moisture, resulting in smoother, more luminous-looking locks, and the argan oil strengthens with fatty acids. But beyond that, the scent is a star all on its own, too: golden honey tones mix with notes of familiar lavender and fruity blackberry, evocating the feeling of late summer evenings in the brand’s Dutch countryside home.

Byredo Mojave Ghost Hair Perfume

The minimalist and cool fragrance brand Byredo offers a few of its iconic scents in hair perfume format, but we think Mojave Ghost is perhaps best suited to the format. Delivered in a fine mist, the woody blend – inspired by a rare plant that blooms in the Californian desert – is musky and sensual, crisped up with amber and cedarwood. A truly unisex perfume, it’s luminous yet subtle, which translates wonderfully in this lightweight, long-lasting and non-greasy formula.
