Maison Crivelli Reimagines Floral Fragrance for Summer

Words by Anna Gosling

Floral fragrances feel like the obvious choice for summer. Fresh, uplifting and delicate, they lend themselves well to the best the season has to offer, from weddings and garden parties to long, golden evenings. But for all their versatility and universal appeal, floral fragrances have a reputation for being a little predictable. Well, not anymore. Maison Crivelli is making the case for florals with an edge through bold interpretations of classics like rose, lily, iris and more, introducing intriguing contrasts such as savoury and spicy accords to push the boundaries of traditional blooms, creating scents that feel truly distinctive. And this summer, it’s all about scent layering to create a signature fragrance that feels especially unique to you. Read on as we shine a spotlight on our favourite pairings from Maison Crivelli’s exquisite line-up of florals to give your fragrance wardrobe a summer upgrade.

Maison Crivelli is a house renowned for its use of rare raw materials and unique ingredient pairings. Take the strikingly saline seaweed absolute contrasted with sweet rose centifolia in Rose SaltifOlia. Or hard-to-source fragrance ingredients like Damask rose in Hibiscus Mahajád and Lys Sølaberg’s calamus. The house’s blends bring a distinctive edge to classic floral structures.

Creating a Signature

Scent layering is a great way to create a bespoke signature scent, and Maison Crivelli’s florals are designed to be layered to bring out the complexity of each fragrance. Scent layering works best when you combine fragrances that share complementary ingredients to amplify a note of choice, alongside contrasting notes depending on the effect you want to create, whether that’s added depth, freshness, sweetness or spice. A useful rule of thumb is to apply the most intense or concentrated fragrance first, such as an extrait de parfum, followed by an eau de parfum to enhance different facets of the compositions.

Two florals that layer beautifully together are Hibiscus Mahajád extrait de parfum and Rose SaltifOlia eau de parfum. Both fragrances share a captivating rose note, but each expresses it differently. In Hibiscus Mahajád, Damask rose is wrapped in juicy hibiscus, vanilla and a hint of leather, creating a floral-fruity trail with depth. Add a couple of spritzes of Rose SaltifOlia and the rose becomes brighter and more luminous, lifted by sparkling blood orange and a refreshing sea-breeze accord thanks to seaweed absolute. The result is a juicy, fresh rose scent that feels radiant and elegant. An ideal signature for your next sun-drenched getaway.

Another elegant pairing is Tubéreuse Astrale extrait de parfum layered with Lys Sølaberg eau de parfum. Tubéreuse Astrale’s creamy tuberose, enriched with warm cinnamon and soft musk, combines beautifully with Lys Sølaberg’s lily to create a captivating blend of white florals and spice. The latter’s woody and smoky facets enhance the earthy depth of the composition for a sophisticated floral scent that feels rich yet refined, making it equally suited to daytime and evening occasions.
