An abbreviation of two Danish words ‘leg’ and ‘godt’, meaning ‘play well’, LEGO was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen, who set about creating wooden toys. Now a world-famous toy brand, still privately-owned and based in Billund, Denmark, what started out as a small carpenter’s workshop is now a global sensation loved by all ages. The definitive plastic brick wasn’t introduced until 1958 and, since then, LEGO products have undergone extensive development, but the traditional brick remains at the forefront of the brand. The interlocking style makes it unique, offering children (and adults alike!) unlimited building possibilities, now seen across special edition collectors' sets in collaboration with Star Wars, Marvel, Minecraft and more.
