Chantecaille's New Launches are Worth the Hype

Words by Maya Avram

The beauty hive has been buzzing over Chantecaille’s Cheek Gelée and Brilliant Lip Gloss, two featherlight yet high-shine staples loved by beauty editors and celebrities like Gwenyth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie. It appears to be for good reason: both the gel blush and the lip gloss promise to deliver deep hydration and long-lasting coverage, vying for a spot in your everyday beauty edit.

After taking the two for several test drives, here is my honest review.

Chantecaille Cheek Gelée

Texture: Gel-cream

Coverage: Semi-sheer

Finish: Luminous

As someone with sensitive skin, I always go for lightweight, buildable make-up formulas that allow me to customise coverage until it’s just right. The Cheek Gelée fit the bill perfectly, its semi-sheer gel formula feeling both weightless and moisturising. Its buttery texture left a subtle, almost iridescent finish, giving my face a radiant glow (confirmed by my very kind friends). Best of all, the healthy flush stayed put even when confronted with London’s fickle weather – from heatwave to spitting rain – earning the blush its rightful place in my roster.

Pro tip: When it comes to blush, I like to blend multiple shades for added depth. Here, I used both Delight and Lively, one vibrant and one delicate peach, to create dimension and a sculpted look.

Chantecaille Brilliant Lip Gloss

Texture: A hybrid lip gloss and lip oil

Coverage: Light

Finish: High-gloss

To be perfectly honest, it’s been a while since I last wore lip gloss. My go-to is usually a lip oil when I’m in need of hydration, or a satin-finish lipstick when my look needs a little bit of oomph. But Chantecaille’s Brilliant Lip Gloss is not made like the others. First, we need to talk about the texture – oh, the texture. This is by far the smoothest lip gloss I have ever worn, with no sticky or tacky feeling to it at all. You can credit that to the gloss’ skincare-inspired formula, which boasts two botanical actives that hydrate and condition your lips. So nourishing is the lip gloss, in fact, that I didn’t need to apply an oil or a balm for a good few days after wearing it. Major win in my book.

Finally, the colour range is dreamy, from the sheer and sparkly Glimmer to the vividly berry Enchant, offering a hue for every occasion. I went with Mirth, a “your lips but better” type of nude, which I can already see becoming the star of every outing.

How to Apply

When it comes to liquid or gel-textured blush, I find that the best way to apply it is with the pads of your fingers. This way, you can create a natural-looking diffused look perfect for daytime. For a more precise application, opt for Chantecaille’s Blend and Smooth Brush which comes at an angle designed for a sculpted look.

The Brilliant Lip Gloss, on the other hand, comes with a thin applicator wand ideal for creating a sharp line. Use a lip liner for better definition and dimension.
