A Man’s Guide to Summer Sportswear

Words by Tony Wilkes

Summer brings numerous events that inspire a man to get active, from Wimbledon to the Tour de France and British Open – plus the weather to work on your run time or to simply enjoy a trip to the lido. Opportunity aside, the question still remains: what to wear? Whether you’re hitting the tennis court, golf course or your local run club, this is the ultimate wardrobe for the sporty season, featuring RLX Ralph Lauren’s new Wimbledon capsule, the latest On sneakers, Manors x Reebok golf gear and more.

Tennis

The Wimbledon Championships may be at an end, but if you’re anything like us, you’ll still be admiring the players’ kit as much as the serves, lobs and rallies. For improving your own game, you can’t go wrong with the 2025 Wimbledon collection from RLX and Polo Ralph Lauren – the tournament’s official outfitter – as well as tennis capsules from Brunello Cucinelli and Fred Perry. The latter, founded by the triple Wimbledon tennis champion, unveiled its signature polo shirts at the Championships back in 1952.

Golf

Everyone, it seems, is playing golf. In fact, the sport is now at an all-time high, with 10.2 million of us submitting scores through the World Handicap System alone. Just in time, golf gear has reached unheard heights in performance and style – if you know where to look. Manors, a new brand at Harrods, counts Tom Holland and Mac Boucher as fans, and has recently released a capsule collab with Reebok. Other highlights include Moorer’s minimalist pieces – all impeccably crafted in Italy – and J.Lindeberg’s tasteful collection, largely indistinguishable from the hottest new arrivals in Menswear on the Second Floor.

The Great Outdoors

Around this time of year, outdoorsy types assemble on moorlands of the English Peak District, Northern Ireland and Wales. Tradition and heritage are the red thread of the season – and the uniform remains largely unchanged. Classic shirt, muted trousers, flat cap, practical hiking boots and a lightweight waterproof in case of showers. Look to leading British brands such as Barbour, Purdey and Belstaff. Boasting a combined age of over 400 years, each is synonymous with excellent craftsmanship and versatile outerwear that will last you for years.

Running

“We like to say run clubs are the new runways,” Represent founder George Heaton told us. And even if you prefer jogging solo, you’ll still be aware of the growing importance of running kit. When hitting the pavement in the summer months, light, moisture-wicking fabrics are key. On’s Performance T-shirt is a case in point. Crafted from breathable DryTec technology, it’s specially designed to regulate body temperature by drawing moisture away from the skin to keep you cool and comfortable. In terms of footwear, the brand’s new Cloud 6 running trainers are upgraded for greater comfort and stability thanks to Zero-Gravity CloudTec® technology, while Hoka, Salomon and Represent 247 offer fail-safe styles for a cool, soft and balanced ride.

Swimming

The most effective answer to a heatwave? Taking an outdoor dip. Whether you’re at the lido or the beach, the season demands a smart rotation of swimwear. Our latest guide to the best men’s swim shorts contains a range of styles – from understated classics to bold prints and even pairs you can wear with tailoring – alongside brands that have turned them into an art form. Frescobol Carioca sets the standard with vibrant prints painted by hand, while Vilebrequin, renowned for its quality, uses a process of 32 steps.
