South Street

Art Deco meets five-star luxury in this Grade II-listed apartment in Mayfair. Originally decorated in a classic, traditional style, the property has been totally transformed into an impeccably designed holiday home, perfect for entertaining.

To fulfil a special request from the client, en-suites were added to each of the four bedrooms without reducing floor space, accomplished by extensively redesigning the floorplan. The change made it possible to bring in more natural light, raise the ceilings, and create a high-impact entrance and hallway, which hint at the grandeur inside.

Décor-wise, the designers riffed on the enduring allure of the Roaring Twenties (the visual drama, the glamour, the opulence) and its Art Deco aesthetic. Known for using marble, metallic finishes and high-gloss lacquer, not to mention drawing on an eclectic range of influences (from tribal African to Orientalism), it provided a rich tapestry of references for the design team. They duly began to build a mood board that incorporated all the immaculate fixtures you would expect from a five-star hotel but with added layers of texture and colour to give it a more personal and livable feel.

A modern interpretation of Art Deco – timeless, luxurious and full of character.
