Men's Penny Loafers
Men’s penny loafers date back to the 1930s, with early designs inspired by moccasins worn by farmers and fishermen, bridging the gap between luxury styles and functional, casual footwear. It wasn’t until the 1950s, however, that this type of men’s loafer received its name – a result of pennies being inserted into the open slot on the upper, both as a fashion statement and in case the wearer needed to use a payphone. Today, penny loafers – particularly in leather and suede – remain an elegant option among men’s smart shoes, often serving as a go-to silhouette for everyday wear and a fail-safe choice thanks to their comfort, sophistication and versatility.
