Trending Boots for Autumn/Winter 2025
Words by Eleanor Hibberd and Sophia Miller
Autumn is well and truly here – but savvy dressers know the dip in temperature isn’t all doom and gloom. When the mercury plummets, so too does your pedicure bill, and chilly mornings herald our favourite time of year: boots season. Find your stride with the trending pairs everyone will be wearing this side of 2026.
The Biker Boots
The words ‘biker boot’ have taken on a nuanced meaning over the past few seasons. Where once we might have defaulted to a laced-up utility aesthetic, the term now popularly refers to a motorcycle style complete with plenty of metal hardware. Pioneered by Miu Miu for several seasons and counting, the trend has evolved with interpretations by McQueen, Prada, Jimmy Choo and more, having become the cool-girl shoes of choice that lend edge to pretty much any outfit.
The Pointed Ankle Boots
Ladylike kitten heels have been dominating the footwear scene for the last few seasons, and come autumn, heeled ankle boots offer something similar for those with a predilection for sleeker silhouettes. Streamlined and unfussy, pointed-toe pairs from Christian Louboutin, The Row, Toteme and more hark back to the ‘going out-out’ shoes of the ’00s. Choose between trending brown suede, black leather or animal-print embossing.
The Riding Boots
AW25 is all about shapes and materials that borrow from the eccentric attire of British aristocracy – and your footwear collection is next to be tackled by the trend. Equestrian-inspired riding boots appeared on the runways at heritage brands including Hermès, Ralph Lauren and Burberry, and their practical silhouette promises to cement them as firm favourites in seasons to come. Skip the jodhpurs and wear yours with a pleated skirt (read: kilt) for full To the Manor Born effect.
The Chunky Chelsea Boots
Every boot collection needs practicality. Something appropriate for snow, ice and everything the British winter may throw at us. But practical doesn’t have to mean boring. Popularised by the likes of Ganni, Prada and Bottega Veneta, heftily cleated-soled Chelsea boots have just the right dose of attitude to toughen up everyday looks. Get stomping.
The Over-the-Knee Boots
To say this leggy trend made its presence known on the AW25 runways would be an understatement. Endorsed by Stella McCartney, Khaite and Chloé, to name but a few, over-the-knee boots firmly cemented themselves as one of the It-styles of the season. Some were worn with floor-sweeping coats, some with micro minis, others effortlessly pulled on over indigo-rinse jeans. Whatever your vibe, there’s a pair for you.
