Five Beauty Resolutions You'll Actually Want To Keep in 2025

Words by Emily Kerr

It's that time of year again. The part when we make a list of beauty resolutions and vow to stick to them forever. Whether it’s to take our make-up off properly, introduce retinol, or to treat our hair to regular TLC we always start the year with such good intentions of making our beauty routines better. The reality though is that often we end up stopping them before we’ve made it to February.

That’s why, this year, we’re forgoing resolutions and reinvention in favour of long-term solutions. Here, our beauty team share the things that they’re going to be introducing to their beauty routines once and for all. From getting your scalp health in check to tackling your skincare concerns, 2025 is the year that we’re finally going to overhaul our beauty routine.

So, for the ultimate beauty inspiration, read on. 2025, let’s glow.

Streamline Your Skin-Loving Products

My resolution is all around reducing wastage and ensuring my routine is packed with only the most hardworking products that my skin loves. I am a sucker for a new product, trend or ingredient but as a result I routinely can’t finish them before their suggested use by date (for example, mascaras should be replaced every 6 months). However, that means I’ve tried a lot of different things and now have a curated routine that I know works for me. So, for 2025, it’s only the stalwarts making it in to the edit of my make-up bag. That includes Shisedo Synchro Skin Foundation, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, Anastasia Beverly Hills Volumising Tinted Brow Gel and Clinique High-Fi Full Volume Mascara. As for my skin, it never looks in a better state than when I’m consistently using Clé de Peau Beauté The Serum. For me, it’s like waving a magic wand for even skin tone, not clogging my pores and keeping my skin bouncy and hydrated.

Introduce A Skincare-Grade Body Care Routine

In 2024 I vowed to sort out my facial skincare once and for all, and with a simple but consistent routine I think I’ve achieved that. For 2025, I’m shifting the focus to my body. I’ve lost count of the number of dermatologists who have told me that I should be treating the skin on my body as I do my face - makes sense, right? Happily, there are now a slew of brilliant products available that contain skincare-grade ingredients in body formats. Think salicylic acid body washes and hyaluronic acid infused moisturisers. I’m going to take a similar approach to my face and keep things straightforward but regular; that means body washes that target my skin needs and a daily slathering of hydration from tip to toe. For hardworking body care you can’t beat QMS, it’s grounded in medical research and great for sensitive skin. I’ve also noticed a rise in products that treat specific areas such as the hands. Orveda’s Hand Treatment Trio has been specially formulated to keep dry hands hydrated as well as minimise the appearance of fine lines, clever stuff. May this year but the start of a head-to-toe glow up (literally), wish me luck!

Start Using Retinol At The Right Time

Motivated by ‘prevention’ being the beauty buzzword for 2025, my resolution is to introduce a retinol into my routine. Many dermatologists recommend starting to use retinol in your mid-twenties as that’s when our skin-cell turnover starts slowing down, and you might start to notice a change in skin texture. Read: less plump and vibrant. Having just hit the grand old age of 26, now is the retinol time. The trick with this potent ingredient is ‘low and slow’ and applying Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3 Night Serum once-per-week will be my go-to as a first-time vitamin A user.

Heal Your Hair For A Healthy Head (And Scalp)

I’ve never given much thought to the health of my hair, happily coasting on its natural thickness and that curly-haired knack for disguising signs of greasiness. But ever since I chopped it into a pixie cut in 2024, I’ve become much more conscious of keeping both my hair and scalp in good health. Yes, I’ve unofficially joined the scalp care movement. I’ve already started with a revamped wash day ritual. Pre-shower, I massage Aman’s Purifying Argan Scalp and Hair Oil into my scalp and strands, followed by a little circulation boost courtesy of Kama Ayurveda’s Kansa Scalp Brush. Post-shower, I’m making it my mission to stay consistent with nourishing leave-in conditioners. And instead of my usual air-dry-and-bun routine (guilty), I’ll be carving out time to diffuse my curls using Shark’s FlexStyle 4-in-1 Curly Hair Styler Set. The goal? Lush, healthy curls that actually look like I’ve made an effort.

Say Hello To Beauty From Within

2024 was a year of change for me: I moved to a new city, settled into a new house and increased my fitness regimen (I know, shameless plug). However, all of this brought extra stress to my skin and hair, and I noticed the effects—hello, greasy hair, acne and an irritating struggle to fall asleep. So, I’m going to make a conscious effort to stick to a sleep regime in a bid to restore balance, and my sanity! Helping me on my quest is Vida Glow’s Anti-G-Ox Daily Supplement, a magnesium and antioxidant-packed, berry-flavoured lifesaver that’s perfect for busy lifestyles. It’s even designed to withstand pollution and sleep disruptors, all while boosting skin regeneration—exactly the helping hand I desperately need. So, if my life was slightly tipped ‘upside down’ (albeit in a positive way) in 2024, in 2025, I will focus on skin-saving nutrients that promote harmony from the ‘inside out.’
