Your Guide To Your Healthiest Hair Yet

Words by Anna Gosling

There has never been as exciting a time in the haircare space as now. There's a plethora of buzzy new tools as well as the 'skinification' of haircare formulas, and now beauty's favourite buzzword – longevity – has started to filter from skin and health into hair. In 2026, healthy hair is no longer focused solely on repair, but prevention.

So what does longevity actually mean in terms of haircare? “Hair longevity aims to extend the ‘health span’ of the hair to keep it as healthy as possible for as long as possible, at any age,” says Florence Maraval, brand director at Hair Rituel by Sisley. “Hair longevity depends on four major criteria: scalp health, the physical characteristics of the hair fibre, hair-fibre resilience, and hair-cycle dynamics and density.”

Armed with the experts’ top tips and some really brilliant new haircare products, we’ve curated your ultimate guide to thicker, healthier and stronger hair.

Understanding Scalp Health

The scalp is often overlooked when it comes to haircare, but according to Ricardo Vila Nova, expert trichologist at Harrods, this is a mistake: “Healthy hair comes from a healthy scalp.” In fact, common scalp issues – think dry, flaky, oily, irritated or inflamed – are often the cause of "slow or 'lazy' hair growth, thinning, increased shedding, dullness and brittle hair that struggles to retain length.”

Haircare brands are now taking scalp health seriously. Leading the charge is Sisley, with the newly reformulated Revitalizing Fortifying Super Serum for the scalp. Built around new research into the scalp microbiome, this impressive serum is infused with a powerful duo of ginger extract and vitamin B12 to calm inflammation, while micro-peptides help re-anchor hair at the root. There's even more science aimed at long-term hair health; Indian gooseberry extract aids the preservation of the scalp’s stem cells, while an azalea-derived yeast reboots the cellular energy that tired follicles need to keep producing hair.

Also making waves in the hair longevity space is K18’s FutureIQ biomimetic hair longevity serum. The formula centres on prevention and is designed to protect the hair’s biology before visible signs of ageing appear. A powerful blend of biomimetic peptides, a root-anchoring complex and antioxidants works to slow the breakdown of the proteins that hold hair in place to help slow shedding. There's also science to support the signalling behind melanin production to help delay the appearance of greys.

Alongside your targeted treatments, it’s important to consider the right washing ritual for your scalp to avoid product and oil build-up that can ignite inflammation. Rahua’s Scalp Exfoliating Shampoo is designed to be used weekly as a scalp detox, leaving a clean slate for serums and treatments to work efficiently and efficaciously.

Repair at Molecular Level

Dry, brittle lengths and ends are often a sign that the hair’s internal protein structure (also called bonds) has begun to break down. And usually our everyday habits do the most damage. “Bonds are compromised by things such as bleach, permanent colour and UV-ray exposure, so it's important to restore the structural integrity of your hair,” says Anabel Kingsley, brand president and consultant trichologist at Philip Kingsley, who advises adding bond builders – products that strengthen the chemical bonds that hold your hair together – to your routine.

The key is to look for formulas that rebuild damaged fibres rather than simply providing surface-level smoothing.

Oribe’s Bond Building Elixir is a hair-fortifying hero. This leave-in treatment pairs bond-supporting amino acids with fibre-strengthening actives and proteins to help repair damaged hair and seal the cuticle, leaving your tresses looking super smooth.

To rebuild a compromised protein structure, consider Olaplex’s No.7 Bonding Oil. Powered by bond-building actives, it works to repair hair at the molecular level. Plus, antioxidant-rich oils add a soft, glossy finish.

A weekly hair mask can transform damaged lengths. Flora’s Intensive Repair Hair Mask is packed with ceramides to help fill in damaged hair fibres, and hydrating actives to replace lost moisture along the lengths. This is the perfect finishing touch to your repair ritual.

Protect From Damage

“Setting good habits with efficacious products and committing to their long-term use will result in better hair in the future, ” notes Tom Smith, global brand ambassador for K18. Considered care and a consistent routine are essential parts of supporting overall healthy hair.

If you're styling hair, a heat protectant is a non-negotiable. Kérastase’s Résistance Extentioniste Thermique blow-dry cream contains conditioning and heat-resistant polymers which coat the hair shaft with a lightweight but ultra-protective film. Plus, creatine and taurine help prevent mechanical damage from brushing and styling.

Hair tools have moved beyond styling, and today the best ones look after your hair too. Ghd’s latest innovation, Sculpt Straightener, uses AI to measure hair heat and adjust accordingly, keeping hair at a safe temperature to minimise damage.

Continuing the theme of daily habits, even the pillowcase you use can affect your hair health. Slip’s Silk Queen Pillowcase uses pure mulberry silk to reduce friction and therefore breakage.

Your hair should be treated with as much care as your face, and that includes sun protection. Oribe's Invisible Defense Universal Protection Spray is enriched with antioxidants for day-to-day protection against free radicals, sun damage and pollution.

Stimulate Growth

Another key step in a healthy hair journey is encouraging new hair growth. Think scalp massages, treatments and LED-powered haircare gadgets, designed to stimulate healthy hair follicles that are necessary for longer, thicker hair. Patience is key says Vila Nova: “Hair growth is a slow biological process… consistency will almost always deliver better results than constantly starting, stopping and switching routines.”

A good place to start is looking at your hairbrush. Mason Pearson’s Darkwood Popular Hairbrush, a new Harrods exclusive, has nylon and boar bristles packed onto a flexible cushioned pad that contours around your scalp as you brush, providing a gentle massaging effect without scraping the scalp. Plus, the boar bristles help draw your scalp's natural oils down the lengths, smoothing the cuticle for healthier-looking, glossier hair.

Or, consider a hair gadget like Stylpro’s Root Renew Red Light Hairbrush. This innovative tool delivers targeted LED light to the roots and scalp while the soft silicone bristles provide a gentle massage.

Chāmpo’s famed Pitta Growth Serum contains myriad powerhouse ingredients including micropeptides to help fortify the hair follicle and reduce shedding, and red clover extract which helps inhibit the production of DHT, the hormone linked to hair loss. Massage a few drops into scalp daily and over time enjoy hair that looks fuller, healthier and stronger.
