Trending Shoes to Step Out in for Autumn/Winter 2026

Last year saw argyle checks and tweed pick up speed as heritage hype overtook the runways – and fans of collegiate style will be pleased to know that all things preppy remain a staple in AW26. In fact, back in January, The Times declared 2026 the year of the loafer. At the shows during Fashion Month, styles tended toward softer, unstructured shapes and ruched detailing, often worn with winter-proofed slouchy socks – but there are still plenty of penny loafers if it’s the polished-prep look you prefer.

This season’s demureness extends all the way to your footwear. From heeled pumps to mules and ballet flats, AW26 favours shoes with high vamps, meaning they come up just that bit higher on the foot. This shape gives otherwise simple silhouettes an unexpected, modern feel and, when paired with a glove-like V-cut, is famously flattering on the foot. It’s been on the rise for a while, with CHANEL’s sell-out two-tone pumps setting the trend alight earlier in the year. The likes of Khaite, Prada and Malone Souliers are nailing it for AW26.

Red is a trending colour whose fire seems to never die out – it’s been everywhere for a few years now, and we’re still singing its praises. If you’re a bit hesitant to go full-throttle, shoes are the ideal way to dip your toe into the trend – try a pair of ballet flats for an Amélie-inspired feel, or go more glam with mesh, satin or patent leather heels from Alaïa, Betzábe and Christian Louboutin. Hot tip: this season, a deeper burgundy is the shade to opt for over the more summery brights.

Knee-high boots have been enjoying a renaissance of late, and they’re still a firm autumn favourite in the Harrods office. While chunky biker boots still have their place, this year we’re leaning toward something with a bit more polish: think a slim-yet-slouchy fit and some form of heel. Pull a pair of these on and you’ll feel like you can conquer the world. Or at least your commute.

All things corsetry-inspired are trending right now – all in line with fashion’s powerful new take on femininity. Jimmy Choo’s Scarlett pumps, with their chic pointed toes and lace-up detailing, offer just the right amount of throwback appeal, while McQueen’s Koko pumps have an almost Victorian feel with their two-tone detailing. Soft leather brogues, akin to jazz shoes, are another more minimalist option – Loewe’s Pebble is the pair to consider.
